James Paul Smerdon

Smerdon, James Paul, age 72, of Elk River, passed away on July 6, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lori, and parents, Robert and Genevieve. He is survived by his children, Michael of Brooklyn Park, Jennifer (Scott) of Big Lake, and Matthew (Alicia) of Elk River; grandchildren Abigail, Jacob, Lucas, Sabrina, Paisley, and Ella; sister Lucia Turner, brother Charles (Kathy), and niece, Kelly; as well as many friends and extended family.  Visitation will be on Sunday July 14 from 4-7, with a service on Monday July 15 at 3:00 pm, with a visitation one hour before, both at Dare’s Funeral Home, 805 Main Street NW, Elk River, MN. 

Jim was born on May 26, 1947 to Robert and Genevieve Smerdon, of Glen Lake. He was the oldest of three kids.  In his youth he was very involved with baseball and hockey.  He graduated from Hopkins High School and then from St Cloud State University, with a degree in Geography.  During college he met Lori Mae Lannigan and they married on 9/6/1969.  Jim & Lori settled in Elk River, where they raised their three children, Michael, Jennifer, and Matthew.  Jim was a real estate appraiser for Bank of America, and then self-employed, for over 30 years.  In his younger years Jim enjoyed golfing, umpiring softball, and refereeing hockey.  In his later years he enjoyed playing poker, training new appraisers and spending time with family.
